Ms. Cherri Latoya Shelton

Cherri L. Shelton, Esq. is the owner of Shelton Law Practice, LLC, a boutique law firm that advocates for employee rights.  For the past decade, Ms. Shelton has represented both private and federal workers, helping both to assert and protect their rights in the workplace.

 

Prior to starting her law firm, Ms. Shelton worked as an Administrative Hearing Officer with the Georgia Department of Labor.  She also previously worked as a Litigation Associate exclusively representing federal employees in matters of employment discrimination.  In addition, Ms. Shelton represented small businesses in cases involving employment law and commercial litigation, before turning her focus exclusively to employee rights.

 

Ms. Shelton holds a Bachelor of Arts in English from Spelman College, where she graduated cum laude and she earned her Juris Doctorate from Atlanta’s John Marshall Law School.  During law school, Ms. Shelton served as a Peer Mentor and an Associate Notes Editor of The John Marshall Law Journal.  Ms. Shelton was also selected to serve as a Legal and Judicial Intern, respectively with both the Trial Unit and Hearings Unit of the Equal Employment Opportunity Commission (Atlanta District Office).

 

In 2016, Ms. Shelton was named as a National Black Lawyer, Top 40 Under 40.  From 2016 to 2020, she was recognized as a Georgia Super Lawyers Rising Star.  And, in 2022 and 2023, Ms. Shelton received recognition as a Georgia Super Lawyer, an honor reserved for only 5% of attorneys across the State.

Ms. Shelton has been and continues to be involved in the legal community.  From 2012 to 2017, Ms. Shelton served on the Executive Board of the Georgia Association of Black Women Attorneys (GABWA), helping to raise money for its scholarship fund and its Sister to Sister Mentoring Program.  Ms. Shelton is a member of the National Employment Lawyers Association, as well as its local Georgia Chapter.  She has participated in various professional development and mentorship programs facilitated by the Georgia Chapter of the National Employment Lawyers Association and she currently serves as its Secretary.  Ms. Shelton has also had the rare honor of participating in the Labor & Employment Mentorship Academy as both a mentee and mentor. 

When not practicing law, you can find Ms. Shelton practicing yoga, trying new restaurants, overseeing home renovation projects, and traveling.
