BIOGRAPHICAL STATEMENT
A 2010 graduate of Emory University School of Law, Daniel Levitas has practiced nearly exclusively in the area of workers’ compensation for the past 15 years. He has been with the law firm of Clements and Sweet since 2013. Mr. Levitas’ practice focuses on medically complex and catastrophic cases, workers’ compensation death claims, and litigating against uninsured employers.
A native of New York City, Mr. Levitas graduated from the University of Michigan in 1982 and moved to Atlanta in 1989 to run the National Anti-Klan Network (formerly the Center for Democratic Renewal) founded by The Rev. C.T. Vivian. His 2002 book, The Terrorist Next Door. The Militia Movement and the Radical Right (Thomas Dunne Books/St. Martin's Press, 2002), chronicled the rise of armed militia groups in the 1990s and other white supremacist organizations and movements. His book was nominated for a Pulitzer Prize and a National Book Award.
Immediately prior to obtaining his law degree, Mr. Levitas worked for the American Civil Liberties Union Voting Rights Project from 2004 - 2006 to help secure renewal of Section 5 and other then-expiring provisions of the 1965 Voting Rights Act and on the issue felon re-enfranchisement.
Mr. Levitas and his wife live in Decatur, Georgia.
