Lauren S. Smith


 Lauren Smith received her B.S degree in criminal justice in 1994 from Georgia State University, and her J.D. from the Georgia State University College of Laws (cum laude) in 1997.  Upon graduation, she was admitted to practice in Georgia in 1997 and is a member of the State Bar of Georgia since that date. 

Lauren has been a a sole practitioner in Canton, Georgia since 2006.  She is a Fellow of the Georgia Council of Adoption Lawyers.  Her practice is 100% focused on adoption-related matters, whether that be finalizing adoptions or intervening in dependency matters for families whose ultimate goal is adoption. Prior to becoming a sole practitioner, Lauren worked as an associate in Cherokee, Fannin, Gilmer, Pickens, and Forsyth counties for the  Special Assistant Attorney General representing DFCS. While in law school she served as a Court Appointed Special Advocate in Cherokee County.

Lauren speaks to various state agencies and foster parent associations on matters related to juvenile court and adoption as part of their continuing education.  Advocacy for foster parents is a personal passion for Lauren. Her entire career has focused on some aspect of the foster care system.

When not representing or advocating for foster and adoptive parents, Lauren enjoys travel, especially exploring national and state parks, cooking, and hiking.
