Hon. Leigh Martin May, Judge

Leigh Martin May is the chief judge for the United States District Court for the Northern District of Georgia. She earned a Bachelor of Science degree from the Georgia Institute of Technology with honors and her law degree from the University of Georgia School of Law magna cum laude. While in law school, she served as editor-in-chief of the Georgia Law Review.
Following law school, she served as a law clerk to the Honorable Dudley H. Bowen, Jr. of the United States District Court for the Southern District of Georgia. She then practiced with the Atlanta office of Butler, Wooten & Fryhofer, LLP, where she later became a partner. Her practice focused on complex civil litigation in both state and federal courts.
On December 19, 2013, President Obama nominated Judge May to serve as a United States District Judge. On November 13, 2014, the Senate voted 99-0 in favor of her final confirmation.
