Biography
Attorney Justin Y. Hester practices law with the firm of Hester Outman, LLC, in Norcross, Georgia. For the past 17 years Justin has represented clients in all aspects of the adoption and reproductive technology practice. Justin is a sought-after speaker on adoption law at numerous seminars and forums; he has served as a faculty member of the annual “Adoption Law and Practice” seminars sponsored by the Institute of Continuing Legal Education in Georgia since 2012. Justin devotes substantial energy and passion to his adoption and reproductive technology work. He enjoys educating clients about their numerous family-building options and then working together with them to develop a plan tailor-made for their situation.
Justin is highly respected and well-liked within many diverse groups and communities. He has assisted in the adoption of at least 600 children in his 17 years of practice. In addition, Justin has served as appellate counsel on behalf of clients in multiple cases before the Georgia Court of Appeals involving complex adoption issues. He has always had great compassion for couples wishing to adopt and relates well to children.
Justin Y. Hester received his undergraduate degree in 1997 from the University of Georgia in Forestry. He earned his Juris Doctor degree in 2000, also from the University of Georgia. He was a founding Fellow in the Georgia Council of Adoption Lawyers, has served on the Board of Directors of that organization and is currently serving as its President Elect. He currently serves as a member of the Board of Directors for The Summit Counseling Center, which provides professional counseling, consultation and educational services to families throughout the metropolitan Atlanta area. He received the United States Congressional Coalition on Adoption Institute’s “Angels in Adoption” Award in 2017.
Justin is a member of the State Bar of Georgia since 2000 and is admitted to practice in all levels of state and federal courts in Georgia.
Lauren Smith received her B.S degree in criminal justice in 1994 from Georgia State University, and her J.D. from the Georgia State University College of Laws (cum laude) in 1997. Upon graduation, she was admitted to practice in Georgia in 1997 and is a member of the State Bar of Georgia since that date.
Lauren has been a a sole practitioner in Canton, Georgia since 2006. She is a Fellow of the Georgia Council of Adoption Lawyers. Her practice is 100% focused on adoption-related matters, whether that be finalizing adoptions or intervening in dependency matters for families whose ultimate goal is adoption. Prior to becoming a sole practitioner, Lauren worked as an associate in Cherokee, Fannin, Gilmer, Pickens, and Forsyth counties for the Special Assistant Attorney General representing DFCS. While in law school she served as a Court Appointed Special Advocate in Cherokee County.
Lauren speaks to various state agencies and foster parent associations on matters related to juvenile court and adoption as part of their continuing education. Advocacy for foster parents is a personal passion for Lauren. Her entire career has focused on some aspect of the foster care system.
When not representing or advocating for foster and adoptive parents, Lauren enjoys travel, especially exploring national and state parks, cooking, and hiking. A native of South Georgia, where gnats frolic and ruin summer, Brooklyn Key attended college at Valdosta State University for her undergraduate degree and then attended the University of Georgia School of Law, class of 2012.
After graduation she practiced criminal defense for two years before accepting the Staff Attorney position for the Southern Judicial Circuit. She has been in her current position for eight years. The Southern Judicial Circuit covers 5 counties, Colquitt, Thomas, Brooks, Lowndes and Echols.
She currently works for 3 of the 5 Superior Court Judges, Judge Brian McDaniel, Judge James Prine, and Judge James E. Hardy. While her 3 judges cover the entire circuit, she is responsible for reviewing all adoptions for Thomas, Colquitt and Brooks County.
When she is not working, she enjoys spending time with her husband and two boys, Abram (7) and Titus (5), cats, dogs and chickens on their small organic farm in Moultrie, GA. They are expecting a little girl that will be added to the bunch next month.
A graduate of the University of Georgia School of Law and admitted to the Georgia Bar in 1999, Amy has devoted the majority of her legal career to the public sector.
For the last 19 years, she has served as a staff attorney in the DeKalb County Superior Court, clerking first for the Honorable Daniel M. Coursey, Jr. and then, after his retirement, to the Hon. LaTisha Dear Jackson.
In addition to serving on the Board of the Family Law Section of the DeKalb Bar Association, she is a member of the Lawyers Club of Atlanta, the Georgia Association for Women Lawyers, the Georgia Asian Pacific American Bar Association, and the American Bar Association.
