The book was the first of its kind to inform accused drunk drivers of their legal rights and explain how to beat a DUI in Court. In 1994, Mr. Head sponsored America's very first NHTSA standardized field sobriety test training course, for which criminal defense attorneys could attend and get certified, just like law enforcement officers get trained. Each attendee received a certificate for having completed the training and passing the final exam, just like police officers receive.
Over the next 5 years, training to be NHTSA instructors took place in Atlanta, and Mr. Head and Partner Larry Kohn were certified as Instructors in 1999. Using the October 1994 inaugural Mastering Scientific Evidence in DUI-DWI Cases seminar in Atlanta to gather top DWI-DWI attorneys, Georgia DUI attorney Bubba Head helped organize and later launch the National College for DUI Defense with the late Larry Taylor (CA), Don Nichols (MN), the late Reese Joye (SC), Vic Carmody, Flem Whited and several others.
The National DUI lawyer training for field sobriety tests and for comprehensive breath alcohol testing started in 1995.
